Doris Weed's artistic talent was recognized at an early age. Since her retirement five years ago, she has been painting in earnest and has produced an extensive collection of acrylic and oil paintings depicting flowers, landscapes, and the everyday dilemmas of people, especially women. Critics praise Weed for her free use of color and her ability to portray personalities and capture situations that reflect the essence of people. The titles of her work, “Latte in the Park with Grandma”, “Ten Cents a Dance”, and “I Told You Not To Call During My Soaps”, all reflect her humorous social satire on the mature woman. Weed states, “Life is funny and full of tragedy. I try to create these moods in my work. Yearly my temperament changes (and that is good).”
